According to the online museum at the Briar Press website (resources for letterpress printers and enthusiasts).
"This Perfected Prouty, invented by George W. Prouty, was manufactured by the Boston Printing Press Manufacturing Company of Boston, MA. The patent dates on this press are from April 1886 to August 1888.
1891 Prouty brochure: IMPORTANT NOTICE - The 'Perfected Prouty' should not be confounded with the old Prouty Press (formally manufactured by the Prouty Press Company), to which it bears no resemblance whatever, being vastly superior in every respect. The entire plant for the manufacture of the original Prouty Press was destroyed by fire in 1886.
We have no connection whatever, nor have we ever had, with the Prouty Cylinder Press, manufactured in the West. Geo. W. Prouty & Co."
The Craftboy Workshop acquired this press in March 2005 from Don Tucker of Capitol Business Forms in Oklahoma City. The press is currently undergoing restoration before being put into service.
